Report on the Completion of the Baseline Survey for the “Kawasaki Aging and Wellbeing Project”

This cohort study for achieving healthy longevity—the Kawasaki Aging and Wellbeing Project (an academic survey on the lifestyle and health of older adults in Kawasaki City)—has been jointly conducted by Keio University and Kawasaki City since March 2017. Thanks to the cooperation of more than 1,000 healthy older residents of Kawasaki City, the baseline surveyNote 1was completed on Saturday, December 15, 2018 (with some orthopedic examinations scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2019).
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the participants who cooperated with the questionnaires and health surveys despite their busy schedules. We would also like to renew our thanks to the staff of Kawasaki Municipal Hospital, Ida Hospital, and Tama Hospital, which served as survey venues, as well as everyone at the related organizations who worked to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the academic survey.

This project will continue to track the health status of participants and proceed with further in-depth analysis. We would be grateful for your continued support.

An auspicious day in December 2018

Note 1In the baseline survey, we conducted (1) a mailed questionnaire survey (covering lifestyle, health status, sense of well-being, and community participation, along with a dietary habits questionnaire) and (2) a health survey (physician interview and examination, physical measurements, memory checks, electrocardiogram, body composition analysis via impedance method, carotid artery ultrasound, physical function tests, nailfold capillaroscopy, blood tests, urinalysis, bone density testing, and spinal X-ray) for older adults aged 85–89 living in Kawasaki City who did not require nursing care in daily life.
